A group of club riders has just returned from a few days in the Suisse Normand, Normandy. This proved to be the perfect location for cycling.

We stayed in Clecy for 4 nights which is on the river Orne. The weather was fantastic with 2 days of cloudless blue skies with summer temperatures to match.

Once there we organised two rides each day.  Some of quite a challenging nature and some more moderate. Paul, Chris, Kathy and Nigel put great efforts into providing us with the routes and everyone greatly appreciated them. We enjoyed a very comfortable hotel and first class food.

Wherever we went we met friendly and helpful people. The roads were quiet and we were able to enjoy the best of french countryside in its early summer lushness.

Clecy is about 35 miles south of Ouistreham and can be reached via mainly cycle paths.

The first part takes you down the river past Pegasus Bridge which we were able to see opening on our return journey.

There is a reasonably straight forward cycle route through Caen though care is required. Once past the Racehorse track an old railway line has been tarmaced and takes you to Thury Harcourt. This is a delightful route that gives you regular views of the river. It is hoped that this cycle route will reach Clecy in the near future

With many thanks from all of us to Paul who put in so much hard work to make the trip so enjoyable. Many thanks also to those who led rides.Thank you to everyone for your company
