We enjoyed a  long hot day in the  saddle. It was 91 miles  out to Midhurst via Petersfield  and back  via Alresford to   Moorgreen.

The view from the saddle, however, is always better. We were greeted  by  hundreds of other cyclists in Petersfield. We saw  a polo game and two goals scored on the polo grounds of  Cowdray Park, near Midhurst. We saw where the cyclist and novelist HG Wells lived. We saw  the memorial window to the cyclist and war poet Edward Thomas at Steep Church. We enjoyed the ups and downs of his cycle route through Hampshire, as   retold in his “ In Pursuit of Spring”.  The route now includes Tour de France hills and roads, which   some of us   rode at great speed fuelled by caffeine gels, as well as cake and tea.

Thanks  to everyone for a great  cycle touring day.
