It had to happen sooner or later. Following a spell of excellent weather the rain arrived on Sunday. The group made speedy progress over to Fordingbridge with Marcus leading the charge with a faster group from Fritham. The cafe was absolutely full of cyclists ( Wessex CTC and Jubilee from Bournemouth)it was fortunate that we had booked ahead. The staff could not have been more accommodating and the service was friendly and efficient. Their certificate of Excellence well deserved from Trip adviser. We said goodbye to Paul, Jeremy, Karen and John who had obviously paid some attention to the weather forecast.
The rain set in not long after coffee and kept up to the top of Knowle Hill. The views were not great but you get a great impression of the land being spread out around you. The steep descent had to be taken with care due to significant deposits of gravel towards the bottom.
We were well served at the Queens Head. Great advantage was taken of the carvery that they now run and it was much appreciated. Winchester CTC arrived looking very bedragled. It was nice to meet up with Sue,Stephen and Jane again.
A good run home with a following wind and sunshine. There was sting in the tail with torrential rain and gusty winds following the group dispersing.
Thank you once again to everyone who came. Despite the rain a really enjoyable day out in Wiltshire.
