A total of eight riders enjoyed Katrina’s lead on a fairly short ride to Carlo’s Ices and Tearooms at West Wellow. There was a keen north westerly wind and the sun at the early stage of the ride made no difference to the temperature; there was an icy feel to the wind. We headed out through Crampmoor, Belkbins, Timsbury and by the time we got to Kimbridge, the skies had clouded over. We passed through Dunbridge and Lockerley and took the delightful Mount Lane over Tote Hill. Some of the group had done a recce just two days earlier and Mount Lane was dry but today it was wet and muddy. It started to rain as we dropped down from Tote Hill and then it quickly turned to wet snow.

We crossed the A27 and passed Dandy’s Ford and felt it was a shame that they weren’t open on a Friday. It was then to Wellow Drove, Scallows Lane, Tutts Lane before joining Romsey Road at West Wellow for the run to Carlo’s where we arrived just into time for most of the riders to enjoy beakfast. Most of the ride was done at this point and it was just a five mile ride back to North Baddesley, firstly with the slog up Rydedown lane but then with the delight of the whizz down Pauncefoot Hill followed shortly after by the climb up Botley Road in Romsey and then back to North Baddesley.

Katrina was thanked on leading an enjoyable ride but also for arranging to have to snow to mark the opening day of the Winter Olympics.

Alas no photos today but on request, there are photos available of the breakfasts.
