Hampshire100 and Great Bedwyn
Congratulations to all those who completed the Hampshire100 Some of us completing this distance for the first time. Despite the early start, 6.45 there were enough for 2 groups. From Chilworth the route went out via South Wonston and then up to Overton for coffee. The day was ideal for cycling with plenty of cloud cover and just a touch of coolness. the second section included Whitchurch, Longparish and Wherwell before heading over to Red Rice from Cottonworth. A late breakfast was taken at the Hawk Conservancy. We then crossed country to the Wallops , Broughton , West Dean to Tesco’s cafe at Salisbury . We know how to live. With tired legs we now tackled the ups and downs to Downton followed by more ups to Nomansland with the reward of an ice cream at Carlos. The final leg included Ryedown Lane and the climb to Chilworth. Again well done to all. Thank you to our leaders on the day and for all the organization that went into a memorable day out.
Another long day under clear blue skies took us up to Great Bedwyn. Coffee at Middle Wallop then the climb up to Chute Causeway. On such a clear day there were tremendous views across the countryside. Hampshire is hard to beat at this time of year. Lunch was at Wilton. A lovely village with a duck pond. The Swan produced great food quickly with cheerful and friendly service. The return was through Great Bedwyn having crossed the canal. Smoke belching from the Beam Engine Shed. We came back down the Bourne Valley via Fosbury too late for a tea stop. Thanks to everyone for their company on a demanding day out in the hot sunshine.
