The ride on Friday was to one of our favourite stops the village hall in Whiteparish providing tea and coffee every third Friday in the month. A very good Friday crowd again turning out for this treat, just the small matter of Dean Hill beforehand. We were very well looked after and made to feel most welcome by the volunteer staff who provided us with a great variety of cakes that could not be faulted. The return route is via Landford and for some the back roads of Wellow. A lovely morning out.

The heatwave continues and with no significant rain for weeks our green and pleasant land is now resembling American prairie with the crops ready for harvesting adding gold to the brown colours pervading. Two groups to Salisbury one group going through the park and the second group going over the hill now that the road works at Petersfinger are finished. The latter is  definitely the quicker way. Most went on, but a breakaway group took the easier option of going straight to BroadChalk along the valley. It was definitely an effort for the ‘crazy gang’ in the heat, approaching 30C, to the top of Fovant Down having briefly looked at the badges, and we were able to enjoy the cooling wind down to Broad Chalk as well as the extensive views. We were by then grateful for the shelter of the pub.

The heat had built in the afternoon and we were conscious of melting tar but we enjoyed a following wind home.

Well done to everyone on such a hot day and thank you to all who helped with the day.
