Twelve riders including a guest from Wessex CTC started on Kathy’s ride on another lovely September morning. Our outward route took us through Chandlers Ford, Hiltingbury and Hursley. John and Roy left us before for got to Sparsholt and then unfortunately, Cyrilyn abandoned due to a blown tyre that could not be fixed at the roadside, despite help from Simon.
We carried on across Three Maids Hill, South Wonston, Stoke Charity, Hunton and then headed north west to cross the A303 to the west of Micheldever. We continued on past the Great Wall of Roundwood before dropping down to Whitchurch for a well-earnt coffee stop at Kudos.
Chris headed on back whilst the rest of us carried on through Tufton and then taking the very pretty little lane alongside the river Test to join the road to the east of Longparish. We carried on across the A303, through Wherwell to a lunch stop at the Royal Oak in Goodworth Clatford. We were pleased to find Simon waiting patiently for us; he had stopped to help Cyrilyn with her blown tyre earlier in the morning and had missed out on the coffee stop. The landlord of the pub was welcoming and we all enjoyed lunch.
Afterwards, it was straight down the Test Valley once we had climbed over Hazel Down, he headed though Longstock, Stockbridge, Houghton, Bossington (why does “Peartree Hill” never get any easier?) to Mottisfont and back along the cycle path to the foot of Yokeford Hill. Those that still had some power in their legs took the route up through Belbins whilst the others carried on into Romsey before going our separate ways.
